The Ting Tings - “We Started Nothing”
The last track on the album with the same name, “We Started Nothing” is a slow burner, with a few catchy-as-hell guitar chords that repeat endlessly. Same four beats, yet this song drives forward. I love the Ting Tings. I love this album. I’m still undecided on their newer album, Sounds from Nowheresville but it’s growing on me.

Allah-Las - “Sacred Sands”
Clued into the Allah-Las by Nick Waterhouse’s blog, I was excited to see they finally released something I could download. Off the Tell Me (What’s One Your Mind) EP, “Sacred Sands” carries on the instrumental tradition of so many great surf bands like, well, um, I can’t really name any off the top of my head. I’m getting into this music backwards. The vocal tracks on this EP, namely the title track and “Catamaran,” are equally impressive.
I really might have to check out the Venice Art Walk tomorrow night to catch the Allah-Las. I wonder if my 19-month old can stay out past 7.
